Classrooms remain first defence against crime – Ogun CP declares

Ogun State's Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has declared classrooms as the initial defense against criminal activities such as cultism and youth crime. Speaking at Eleweran, Abeokuta, during a visit to the Federal College of Education, FCE, Abeokuta, Ojajuni emphasized that policing alone cannot prevent crime and highlighted the significance of fostering law-abiding, self-reliant students as a strategic approach to public safety.

He stressed the crucial role of educators in instilling values, attitudes, and responsible citizenship among young people.

Ojajuni assured the college management that the police command would expand its partnership with FCE Abeokuta to enhance campus security and promote security awareness among students. Through the Police Public Relations Department and the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), the command has intensified its sensitization efforts in schools.

The college, which is the first tertiary institution in Ogun State and is now transitioning into a degree-awarding institution, is focused on entrepreneurial development to cultivate self-reliance and reduce students' vulnerability to crime. FCE Abeokuta's Provost, Joseph Bankole Filani, commended Ojajuni for the peace and security prevailing in the state and pledged the college's continued support and cooperation with the police command.
