The Bank of Ghana (BoG) held a Regional Stakeholder Engagement Forum in Techiman, Bono East Region, on October 12, 2026. The event aimed to enhance public trust in the central bank and improve financial literacy across Ghana. Led by Bernard Otabil, Director of Communications, the forum brought together 150 stakeholders from various sectors, including traditional leaders, market queens, traders, SME owners, rural bank representatives, microfinance institutions, security agencies, and media practitioners.
Organized as part of the Bank's 16-regional outreach program, the forum focused on deepening public confidence in the financial system and creating direct feedback channels between the regulator and the public. The Cedi's value, Director Otabil emphasized, is built on social trust; without trust, the bank's policies would fail to serve the public effectively.
The bank has adopted a people-centered approach in policy-making, particularly addressing issues like unlicensed financial schemes, currency abuse, and misinformation.
The meeting addressed five key themes: the Bank's mandate and functions, microfinance sector reforms, responsible borrowing and consumer protection, currency education, and combating dud cheques. Technical presentations by Bank experts provided insights into these topics. Stakeholders expressed concerns over access to affordable credit, high lending rates, unregulated lending practices, and the need for education on new banknote security features.
Participants were encouraged to report suspicious financial activities to the Bank or law enforcement. Following the forum, the Bank pledged to continue engaging with regional stakeholders to promote financial inclusion, literacy, and system resilience. Otabil urged the public to remain vigilant against financial fraud.
