Berlin: Grüne und SPD unterbrechen Sondierungen mit Linken – wegen einer Abgeordneten

Berlin: The leftist party, Berliner Linke, has added Vanessa Emde to their ranks, prompting their potential coalition partners, the Greens and SPD, to halt negotiations. Both parties stated they had "taken note" of the situation in the Linke's parliamentary group. They intend to review whether their agreement from last week remains valid, requesting the Linke to demonstrate their commitment to previously made agreements and how they intend to implement them.

Some factions within Berlin's Linke have faced criticism over their stances on Israel, Palestine, and antisemitism. The Linke, SPD, and Greens in Berlin agreed last week to handle potential coalition situations involving antisemitic incidents in Linke ranks, including potential sanctions up to expulsion from the faction. This understanding has sparked intense debates within the Linke itself.

Emde has been controversial due to her repeated anti-Israel remarks, leading to speculation about her potential expulsion from the faction. However, like all Linke MPs, she signed an explanation at the faction's constituting meeting, pledging to fight against antisemitism, protect Jewish life, and affirm Israel's right to exist.

The faction also refutes Hamas and other Islamist terror groups, stating that antisemitic slogans, endorsement of Hamas terror, or demands for Israel's destruction must be prohibited. However, it is necessary for the Linke to show concern for the "population of a war zone" and demonstrate a commitment to peace, clearly stating their support for a just peace in Israel and Palestine.
