Barcelona icon Pedro Rodriguez recalls first-team breakthrough, Guardiola and backs Flick’s project

Barcelona legend Pedro Rodriguez has shared his memories of his first-team debut, his connection to legendary manager Pep Guardiola, and his thoughts on the current generation of players aiming to create a similar impact. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Pedro discussed how his career trajectory intersected with Guardiola's historic team and the support he received from the manager during his time at the club.

Reflecting on his rise to the first team, Pedro recounted the moment when Guardiola called him up to join the senior squad after an illness forced Santiago Ezquerro to sit out. The young forward was overwhelmed by the designation, realizing that he had been chosen ahead of his teammates from the youth ranks. Pedro's debut at Camp Nou, where he scored a few minutes later, was an unforgettable experience, with his parents calling him from abroad to witness the momentous occasion.

Guardiola's trust in Pedro's dedication to the game was evident, as the manager recognized the potential in the forward and provided him with valuable guidance. One notable example was Guardiola's direct questioning of Pedro before the Champions League final against Manchester United, pushing him to prove his readiness to handle the pressure of the biggest stage. Pedro's response demonstrated his confidence in his abilities and willingness to follow the manager's instructions.

Beyond Guardiola's tactical prowess, Pedro highlighted the positive atmosphere within the Barcelona dressing room as a crucial factor in their success. He emphasized that the players understood their roles, prioritized the collective goals, and maintained a harmonious relationship without letting individual egos interfere. Pedro believes that the current squad possesses the quality and potential to continue Barcelona's winning legacy, citing young talents like Lamine as crucial players in the club's future success.
