Atletico Madrid punish wasteful Man Utd as Carrick’s problems continue

Manchester United faced another setback as Atletico Madrid claimed a 2-0 victory over Michael Carrick's side in the Champions League. Pablo Barrios opened the scoring for Atletico just before the first half, while Johnny Cardoso was ruled out for handball shortly before halftime, seemingly doubling Atletico's lead. The match took a turn for the worse for United when Leny Yoro received a red card midway through the second half for denying Jonathan David a goal.

Ademola Lookman then sealed the win for Atletico with a close-range tap-in. The defeat added to the mounting pressure on Carrick, whose side continued to struggle in their difficult start to the season, failing to convert promising chances into goals.
