Terminal operator Singapore LNG (SLNG) has initiated construction of a new jetty at its Jurong Island terminal, which could boost its LNG bunkering capacity to 3 million metric tons per year. The third jetty, projected for completion by the second half of 2028, will be designed to accommodate LNG carriers between 5,800-80,000 cubic meters.

This facility will cater to smaller and mid-sized vessels, thereby enabling the terminal to handle more LNG bunker reloads alongside break-bulk operations. Following its completion, the jetty will be able to meet approximately 2 million mt/year of LNG bunker demand, contributing to the overall total infrastructure capacity of 3 million mt/year.

SLNG's Chief Executive, Leong Wei Hung, highlighted that as the demand for LNG bunkering continues to escalate, the new Jetty 3 will enhance Singapore's capacity to support the forthcoming growth phase. Besides regular LNG bunkering, the new jetty will also be capable of handling liquefied biomethane (LBM), thereby providing SLNG with increased flexibility in catering to the burgeoning demand for lower-emission fuels.

Moreover, the terminal has secured ISCC EU certification for managing LBM, which encompasses storage, regasification, bunkering, and trucking operations. This certification will enable clients to trace and account for the certified LBM handled through the facility, thereby promoting transparency and accountability in the processing and distribution of the sustainable fuel.
