Seafy® has introduced P2T, a smartphone-based push-to-talk system for onboard communication. This new solution turns phones into communication devices, allowing crew members to interact through dedicated channels on a vessel’s Wi-Fi network. The system functions offline, even when the vessel has no internet connection. When connectivity is available, P2T extends communication to other vessels in the fleet and the company’s shore-based teams.
P2T complements Seafy’s existing Digital Experience Platform, addressing the need for efficient crew communication across different areas of the vessel. The system is installed locally on the vessel, based on a server, ensuring uninterrupted operation during navigation. P2T does not replace traditional radio equipment or safety communication systems like VHF and GMDSS, but rather serves as an additional layer for internal operations.
The architecture is designed to work on smartphones, eliminating the need for additional radio handsets. When connected, P2T syncs with shore-based management tools, enabling fleet-wide and shore-based communication through the iOS and Android app. Voice transmission initiates in under 100 milliseconds, with talk management preventing overlapping transmissions on the same channel.
P2T supports various priority levels, including high-priority communications that can interrupt ongoing transmissions. Conversations are not recorded but logged locally, providing a traceable history of user access, channel activity, and transmissions. Communications are protected, and access is linked to authorized users. The licensing model is vessel-based, covering requirements from yachts to passenger ships and larger fleets, with support for up to 1,000 users per vessel.
P2T offers three configurations and an annual maintenance service. It is available for individual vessel installations and projects covering multiple vessels within the same fleet. Shipping companies can begin with a live demo, either remotely or on board, followed by configuration based on the vessel’s existing infrastructure and operational organization.
