Pejuang kritik cadangan serah satu pertiga kerusi PAS pada Umno

Pejuang spokesman Rafique Rashid Ali has questioned PAS's proposal to allocate one-third of the DUN seats from the four states of Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, and Perlis to Umno if both parties continue to cooperate during the upcoming election. Rafique argued that unity among the nation is not merely about the number of seats won and how many parties secure them.

He insisted on clear principles, fundamental agreements, and willingness to respect differences between the parties. If genuine cooperation is desired, why is a formula of one-third needed announced before discussions are finalized? He asked in a Facebook post. Rafique questioned what kind of unity is being referred to - electoral cooperation, shared administration, or shared understanding of certain principles?

These questions need to be answered first before seat counts are used as a measure of sincerity, he said. Pejuang is a component of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) party, currently led by PAS. Earlier, Majlis Kerja Tertinggi (MKT) member Nur Jazlan Mohamed suggested PAS should not contest all seats in Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, and Perlis.

He believed the party should contest two-thirds of the seats to prove its commitment to the agenda of uniting Malays. PAS won all 27 DUN seats in Terengganu, 37 of 45 in Kelantan, 21 of 36 in Kedah, and nine in Perlis. Rafique also questioned whether Nur Jazlan's proposal was his personal opinion or a formal decision of Umno. He also noted that Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Perlis have different electoral histories and political situations, so a uniform seat distribution formula might not be appropriate for all states.

While politics requires discussion, meaningful discussion requires clarity, not just announcements of demands to the media, he said.
