Yemi Kosoko in Jos Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has called on Christians across Nigeria to strengthen unity in faith, love and purpose, declaring that a united church remains crucial
First Baptist Church, Jos marked its 115th anniversary on a day dedicated to Christian unity, with Governor Caleb Mutfwang urging all Nigerian Christians to strengthen their bond in faith, love, and purpose. The event, themed "Advancing Through Impactful Celebration," brought together government officials, church leaders, pastors, members, friends, and well-wishers to thank God for the church's enduring presence for over a century.
Mutfwang emphasized the importance of unity among believers, stating that it is crucial for advancing the gospel and promoting peace in Nigeria and Plateau State. He praised the church for its contributions to spiritual growth and socio-economic development and prayed for its continued growth and relevance. Mutfwang reminded Christians to remain grounded in biblical truth, particularly in preaching Christ and Him crucified, as the surest path for the growth of the Christian faith.
The Nigerian Baptist Convention's President, Rev. Dr. David Olusola Idowu, delivered a sermon from Psalm 100:4, encouraging members to seek God's presence for growth and advancement. He stressed that true advancement begins when believers move beyond routine worship to a deeper relationship with God, trusting Him to bring greater impact and transformation.
The anniversary celebration included praise and worship, a commemorative cake-cutting ceremony, special thanksgiving messages, goodwill expressions, and prayers for the church, Plateau State, and the nation.
