MRVC Commissions Advanced Signalling System At Vangaon, Clears Way For Virar–Dahanu Road Quadrupling

Mumbai, October 12, 2026: The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has recently installed an advanced electronic interlocking and signalling system at Vangaon station, a crucial step towards quadrupling the capacity of the Virar-Dahanu Road railway line. This upgrade, completed on October 11 during a seven-hour window between 8:05 am and 3:05 pm, promises to enhance signalling reliability and facilitate ongoing work on the station yard as part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-III).

The new system, employing electronic interlocking technology and Multi-Section Digital Axle Counters (MSDAC), is capable of monitoring 11 signals, 14 points, and 30 track sections at Vangaon station, with a total of 36 new routes added to the existing 25. The installation also features an advanced Frauscher Sensor Technology track-detection system, complete with 60 detection points.

Additional signalling work was performed in the Boisar-Vangaon section, including the commissioning of electronic interlocking equipment at Relay Huts 7 and 8, which supports safer operations through centralized management of signalling functions. MRVC chairman and managing director, Vilas Wadekar, hailed the successful commissioning of Phase I as a significant milestone, paving the way for the construction of additional tracks and infrastructure at Vangaon station and its yard to meet the growing demand for suburban and long-distance train services along this vital railway corridor.
