Karachi BRT Red Line Gets New Completion Date

Karachi’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project is set to resume construction on its delayed Lot 2 section following TransKarachi’s selection of a new contractor. The 12.8-kilometer stretch, which links Numaish to Mosamiyat, is equipped with flyovers, underpasses, elevated U-turns, dedicated bus lanes, and 16 stations. Bids for the new contract were submitted on October 8, with TransKarachi anticipating to evaluate and award the contract within a month.

The Sindh government terminated the previous contract on April 21 due to construction delays. Lot 2’s main construction work has been halted since the cancellation, although other project parts have proceeded independently. A TransKarachi representative stated that the new contractor will have 18 months to finish Lot 2 post the award.

The Red Line project, launched in March 2022 with Asian Development Bank funding, now has an overall completion deadline of June 2028.
