JPJ: Only Registered Intermediaries Can Handle Transactions On Behalf Of Others

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced that only registered intermediaries will be allowed to handle transactions on behalf of clients at all its offices and branches, starting from the beginning of next year. This new regulation will be enforced, and individuals or companies seeking to become registered intermediaries can apply online starting November 1st this year.

Director-General Aedy Fafly Ramli revealed that approved intermediaries will receive an official digital identification document, which will be valid for two years and will include a serial number. The news was shared on the department's official social media platforms.

Previously, JPJ suspended the services of MyEG and Zetrix AI, which were acting as collection agents, due to their failure in passing collected revenues to the Ministry of Transport's Main Revenue account. The outstanding amount, totalling RM314 million, had accumulated since May of this year. Both the ministry and the department took steps to recover these funds, including sending 35 reminder notices.

Interestingly, JPJ claims it has "no ties or business relationships with any of the Registered Intermediaries" and refuses responsibility for any disputes or losses arising from private transactions between customers and these parties. However, the department recommends dealing with the road transport department directly through its MyJPJ app, public portal, service counters, and other official communication channels for safer, more transparent, and secure transactions.
