'I am the best of all time': Cristiano Ronaldo's bold claim resurfaces amid Portugal controversy

Cristiano Ronaldo has always been vocal about his place in football history, with a recent interview reigniting those claims. Portuguese journalist Edu Aguirre shared the exchange with Ronaldo on social media on Monday, October 12, including the star player's assertion that he is the greatest footballer of all time. However, the interview, originally aired on Spanish TV in February 2025, is not new material.

Ronaldo was pushing 40 during the conversation. When asked if he considered himself the best, Ronaldo confidently said, "I think so. I haven't seen anyone better than me." He defended his status against other legends like Messi, Pelé, and Maradona, highlighting his versatility with both feet, heading, free kicks, speed, and physical strength.

Ronaldo also questioned the frenzy surrounding his 1,000-goal goal, stating that the milestone wouldn't change how he views his accomplishments, as 920, 925, or 930 would feel the same to him. He expressed contentment with his legacy, believing his career could end without regrets. The interview resurfaced Ronaldo's turbulent relationship with Portugal's national team coach Jorge Jesus, who has suspended the player pending disciplinary action following a public disagreement over playing time.

Despite the controversy, Ronaldo remains open to representing Portugal once the punishment is served, and he continues to play for Saudi club Al Nassr, with the 1,000-goal target still a key talking point.
