How Tinubu picked Adelabu as minister over Adekanmbi — Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has revealed that President Bola Tinubu rejected his nomination of Bimbo Adekanmbi for a ministerial position and instead appointed Bayo Adelabu as the Minister of Power. Makinde disclosed this during a media chat with Fresh FM. He explained that Tinubu initially asked him to recommend a development economist for the budget and economic planning portfolio, but Makinde nominated Adekanmbi due to his role in stabilizing the previous administration in Oyo under Ajimobi.

Makinde said he was informed by Tinubu that he had decided to appoint Adelabu, whom he had contested against in the 2019 governorship election. He refused Tinubu's request to adopt Adelabu and insisted that the appointment was his own. The governor also mentioned that other governors had been asked to adopt ministerial nominees chosen by Tinubu. He noted that the G5, which consisted of five PDP governors and Tinubu, had not received ministerial appointments, except for Wike.
