Former Liverpool player Florian Wirtz is facing pressure after his team's 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City. Andoni Iraola, Liverpool's head coach, is being questioned about Wirtz's selection in the lineup. The attacking midfielder has been criticized for his performance, with Jamie Carragher particularly vocal in his disapproval.
Carragher argued that Wirtz has not been contributing enough to the team's attack, despite the absence of Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old's form has fallen below the level expected of a marquee signing, and he has not been scoring or providing assists consistently. Liverpool's main concern is ensuring that they have more creativity and end product when key forwards are missing.
The team will look to reset the narrative during their upcoming Champions League trip to LASK, but the debate surrounding Wirtz's place in the Liverpool side will continue.
