On Monday, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, administered oaths to 68 legal practitioners, elevating them to the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs). This ceremony took place as part of the formalities for the 2026/2027 Legal Year, with the selection approved by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee during its 174th plenary session in Abuja the previous month.
Among the 67 advocates honored, Professor Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri was the sole academic recipient. The new SANs were named in order of their seniority at the Bar. The list includes a diverse array of legal professionals, with the shortest seniority seen at just number 67. The Chief Justice's act underscores the commitment to recognizing and fostering excellence within the Nigerian legal profession.
