Cilium Hubble on RKE2: Microservice Traffic Observability (Seeing the Invisible)
Part of the homelab build series. Every packet in my cluster already passes through Cilium's eBPF datapath on all 29 nodes. Hubble turns that into a live map of who talks to whom, with no sidecars and no code changes. This is how I switched it on for RKE2, the two traps that crash-looped it, and the uncomfortable thing I found when I went looking for the HTTP metrics. The Hubble UI service map…
Cilium Hubble on RKE2: Microservice Traffic Observability (Seeing the Invisible)
Cilium's eBPF datapath already provides live visibility into all network traffic within the cluster. Hubble is an observability layer built on top of that datapath, offering a live service map without any sidecars or code changes. To enable Hubble in RKE2, the Hubble Relay service must be configured to collect flow data from each cilium-agent. Once enabled, the Hubble UI can be accessed to view a real-time map of pod-to-service connections, as well as metrics like flow rates, drops, and DNS queries.
