Brazil presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro to visit jailed father

Brazil's presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro is planning a visit to his jailed father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, following a recent judge's authorization. The visit, scheduled for Tuesday, comes after a 90-day suspension of Flavio's visitation rights, which ended on Sunday. Jair Bolsonaro, currently under house arrest for attempting a coup following his defeat in the 2022 election, will be visited by his son on Tuesday morning.

Flavio Bolsonaro expressed his anxiety about not seeing his father in over three months. The Supreme Court allowed the right-wing senator to resume visits to his father, with the condition that no political or electoral purposes are involved. Flavio Bolsonaro criticized the suspension of his visitation rights as unjust and lacking any legal basis.

Jair Bolsonaro remains the leader of his far-right political movement and has selected his son as a presidential candidate in his place, as he is barred from politics until 2030.
