Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu is making her return to the screen after a six-year hiatus. She has commenced filming for an untitled streaming series directed by filmmaker Hansal Mehta. The ensemble cast also includes Sunny Kaushal and Vishal Jethwa, with the series set to premiere on Prime Video. Details about the project, including its title and Basu's specific role, are yet to be disclosed.

The crime drama, written by Kashyap Kapoor and Raghav Raj Kakker and produced by Prabhleen Sandhu under Almighty Motion Pictures, is rooted in an unassuming town that is on the brink of becoming the continent’s heroin capital. Basu's co-star, Sunny Kaushal, plays an incorruptible police officer who must confront powerful forces while striving to maintain his integrity.

The series delves into the challenges faced as he navigates this complex landscape. Specific roles played by Basu and Jethwa remain undisclosed. Bipasha Basu, who has largely focused on family life since her marriage to actor Karan Singh Grover in April 2016, reunited with Grover in November 2022, welcoming their daughter Devi. Her last full-fledged theatrical film was "Alone," a horror movie released in January 2015, opposite Grover.

Her comeback to acting represents a new chapter in her career after a substantial break from screen projects. Hansal Mehta, renowned for his work on films like "Shahid," "Aligarh," and the acclaimed series "Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story," is also helming another project. This upcoming historical streaming series, "Gandhi," explores the Mahatma Gandhi's early life, based on the books "Gandhi Before India" and "Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World" by historian Ramachandra Guha.
