A trio of shipping containers have been repurposed into an unusual holiday home in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. Dubbed Maison Flambeau, the residence spans approximately 800 square feet (74 square metres) and offers amenities such as two bedrooms, a rooftop deck, a private sauna, and an outdoor hot tub. Designed by Backcountry Containers, the property boasts modern comforts with outdoor relaxation areas, including riverfront views and woodland trails.

The cost of construction for Maison Flambeau is listed at $49,500, though this does not reflect the total expense.

The structure utilizes three repurposed shipping containers: two 40-foot (12.2-metre) containers side by side and one smaller 20-foot (6.1-metre) container positioned above one end. The containers have been extensively modified with windows, doors, and other features to transform them into a livable residential space. The exterior is painted blue, giving the unique structure a cohesive appearance.

Inside the compact abode, there is a living room, kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The living room features a sofa bed, two armchairs, a wall-mounted television, and a mini-split air-conditioning unit. The kitchen is spacious, equipped with a sink, induction cooktop, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher. A dining table provides a designated spot for meals.

Two bedrooms are available - the main bedroom contains a queen-sized bed, while the second bedroom includes a queen bed, a raised bunk-style bed above it, and storage space. The main bathroom boasts a glass-enclosed shower, sink, toilet, washer, and dryer. The second bathroom features a toilet, bidet, and sink. The property also includes an outdoor deck with seating, a desk, a barbecue, and an outdoor hot tub with riverfront views.

Additionally, a sauna accommodates up to four adults. Maison Flambeau sits on 14 wooded acres and offers approximately 600 feet of shoreline along the Flambeau River.
