Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has recently demolished over 25 structures, including a Mobil filling station, in Okota, Lagos, due to environmental violations. The operation, led by LAWMA Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin, involved compactor trucks, a payloader, tipper trucks, and street sweepers to clear illegal waste heaps and dumpsites.
LAWMA identified several cart pushers who were arrested for illegal dumping, with one individual, Shamusi Muritala from Katsina State, admitting to charging customers up to N5,000 for his service. The authority emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal and urged residents and traders to utilize approved waste collection services.
LAWMA, alongside the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit and the Kick Against Indiscipline team, will continue to enforce regulations against illegal street trading and improper waste disposal practices.
