Watch: PM Modi, CM Vijay share metro ride after flagging off Chennai Metro's Poonamallee-Vadapalani stretch

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to embark on a day-long visit to Chennai on Sunday, marked by the launch of various development projects. These include the inauguration of the Porur–Poonamallee stretch of the Chennai Metro Phase II, a brain research centre at IIT Madras, and the laying of foundations for several projects across highways, railways, ports, and education sectors. The total investment in these projects amounts to over ₹13,000 crore.

During his visit, Modi will ride the new Metro line between Porur Bypass Station and Poonamallee Bypass Station, showcasing the advanced features of the ₹4,900 crore Phase II project, which boasts a unique 3.7-kilometer double-decker structure and state-of-the-art signalling systems designed to support driverless operations. This expansion aims to reduce travel time and enhance connectivity between Chennai’s flourishing western suburbs and the city center.

In addition to the Metro launch, Modi will offer prayers and perform darshan at Arulmigu Jalakandeswarar Temple, dedicated the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre at IIT Madras, where he will inaugurate the ambitious project aimed at creating 3D atlases of human brains, mapping over 100 brains from fetal stages to old age. Furthermore, he will release C-STROKE, a comprehensive atlas of human ischemic stroke cases, containing over 1,000 detailed microscopic sections for researchers worldwide.

Modi will also lay the foundation stone for five Amrit Stations in the cities of Palani, Vellore Cantonment, Ambasamudram, Paramakudi, and Namakkal, as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These revamped stations will bolster infrastructure and logistics efficiency in Tamil Nadu. He will attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, commemorating five decades of academic excellence, discipline, cultural values, and holistic education.
