US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may be set to visit Russia in the coming weeks, according to a report from Russian state news agency TASS. This news comes following a phone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 9th. The trip could take place within the next two weeks, though specific dates have not been confirmed.
The potential visit follows multilateral consultations in Miami involving Witkoff, Ukrainian negotiators, and representatives from several Western countries. The discussions aimed to explore avenues to end the armed conflict, but no breakthrough was announced. Ukrainian officials have expressed skepticism about Russia's willingness for de-escalation, with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha warning against concessions to Moscow.
The reports of a possible visit by Witkoff and Kushner come as Trump announced a bilateral commercial agreement allowing Russian petroleum shipments into US and global markets.
