[UPDATED] Malaysians unharmed in Riyadh airport attack, says Wisma Putra

KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysian lives were lost in a recent attack at Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport, according to Wisma Putra, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry announced today. The ministry, along with the embassy in Saudi Arabia, reached out to affected Malaysian citizens, offering consular aid. Malaysian nationals present in, passing through, or planning to visit Saudi Arabia are urged to stay alert.

Travel plans are being impacted due to ongoing flight disruptions. Those with upcoming trips are advised to verify their flight status directly with their airlines before arriving at the airport. Malaysians are also cautioned to anticipate possible flight delays or cancellations, stay updated through official channels, and adhere to safety instructions from local authorities.

Initial reports indicated 12 fatalities and 309 injuries, with victims comprising four Saudis, two Bangladeshis, and one person each from the U.S., Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan. The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the fatalities and injuries, following an explosion that disrupted flights and alarmed travelers. Over a dozen ambulances rushed to the scene, and some passengers were evacuated for their safety.

The attack comes amid heightened concerns over Houthi missile strikes against Saudi Arabia. Additionally, a projectile reportedly struck near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. Wisma Putra reminded Malaysians to register and update their details via the e-Konsular portal at ekonsular.kln.gov.my, ensuring swift communication and assistance.
