🔴 Trump says Russia and Ukraine agree to 'energy ceasefire'

A senior Ukrainian official has stated that Ukraine was unaware of an energy ceasefire claimed by U.S. President Donald Trump on October 11. Trump announced the ceasefire on social media, asserting that both sides had agreed. In response to Trump's announcement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky questioned the timing of the ceasefire and expressed readiness to accept it.

However, a Ukrainian official expressed doubt that Russia had been informed of the ceasefire. Trump's announcement came shortly after an interview with ABC News, where Zelensky suggested that if Trump could broker a two-month ceasefire with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukraine could prepare for a new presidential election. Ukraine declared martial law when Russia initiated its full-scale invasion in February 2022, but elections are not feasible while martial law is in effect.

Critics have accused Zelensky of prolonging the war, while Trump and his supporters have called for a different Ukrainian president. Despite these claims, Russia continues to target civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, including Kyiv's energy facilities.
