Trump calls for Zelensky's replacement amid diesel sanctions dispute
Zelensky blasts diesel deal after Russian strikes kill 15
On Saturday, US President Donald Trump urged Ukraine to replace President Volodymyr Zelensky, amid disagreements over easing Russian diesel fuel sanctions. Trump's comments came as Russian strikes killed at least 21 people across Ukraine, including children. The US president claimed Zelensky violated his orders by targeting Russian refineries and obstructed a deal with Moscow.
Trump also accused Zelensky of ignoring his instructions to strike Russian refineries and preventing an election since Russia's 2022 invasion. EU officials warned that lifting sanctions on Russian diesel would only fuel the war effort. Trump criticized Zelensky for not holding elections since the invasion and suggested the Ukrainian leader should step down in favor of someone who could negotiate a settlement.
