Spain seeks to boost trade with Qatar through food exports, says envoy

Spanish Ambassador to Qatar, HE Dr Alvaro Renedo Zalba, has stated that the two nations are working to strengthen their bilateral trade and commercial relations, despite challenges posed by the ongoing regional conflict. The ambassador highlighted Spanish food products as a significant area of opportunity within the Qatari market.

He emphasized that Spain is a leading producer of olive oil, a cornerstone of its culinary traditions, and cited traditional sweets like turron as further examples of high-quality Spanish products that could appeal to local consumers. The ambassador praised LuLu Hypermarket for its role in facilitating the introduction of Spanish products to Qatar, and commended the retailer's extensive network as an essential platform for expanding the visibility of Spanish goods.

The 'Festival of Spain 2026', which runs until October 14 across LuLu outlets in Qatar, showcases Spanish products, live cooking demonstrations and tasting sessions, offering consumers a chance to explore the country's gastronomic offerings. Renedo Zalba noted that the festival could help businesses broaden their market presence while fostering new commercial engagement between the two countries.

Beyond food exports, the ambassador identified energy, services, education, sports, and infrastructure as key areas of economic cooperation between Qatar and Spain. He stressed that both nations are striving to deepen their commercial ties, with the festival serving as a prime example of how business partnerships can support trade promotion, enhance consumer awareness of international products, and forge closer links between producers and retail markets.
