Roh Jeong-eui, Show Kasamatsu uncover dark romance in 'Shaving'

Busan — Director Kim Jung-hoon expressed optimism that his psychological thriller, "Shaving," will provide solace and reassurance to those grappling with past emotional wounds. In a press conference at the Busan Cinema Center during the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), Kim remarked on the potentially hazardous and unsettling nature of a seemingly mundane daily activity like shaving.

He explained that the film's concept arose from observing the typically innocuous routine of men shaving and recognizing the potential for danger and turmoil within the context of an ordinary couple's life. Kim's intention was to trace Su-yeon's emotional journey across various genres, aiming to achieve a cathartic effect for the audience and assist them in overcoming their trauma.

The film was selected for the competition category at the 31st edition of the festival, marking Kim's return to feature filmmaking after a 13-year hiatus since his debut film, "Tinker Ticker" (2013). The narrative revolves around Su-yeon (played by Roh Jeong-eui), a horror novelist grappling with past trauma, and her supportive boyfriend Shinji (portrayed by Show Kasamatsu), who accompanies her on a holiday to a rural house.

What begins as a tranquil getaway takes an ominous turn when Shinji inadvertently injures himself while shaving with a razor.
