Panama has declared a state of emergency following a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck the country on Friday, according to Xinhua. President Juan Carlos Orillac announced the declaration during a press conference at the presidential palace, stating that the measure would ensure government agencies remain vigilant and have necessary resources to assist affected communities.

President Jose Raul Mulino tasked a task force with coordinating relief operations, managing resources, and addressing the needs of the affected communities. The government also established a donation center, including one at Omar Park in Panama City, while provincial offices will serve as additional collection points. Severe damage has been reported to homes, schools, health facilities, roads, and public buildings across the nation. Authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate emergency response efforts.
