The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections on Saturday, triggering mixed reactions from politicians and their supporters. The list includes 18 presidential candidates, governorship contenders from 26 states, and National Assembly representatives. Notable omissions include former Communications Minister Isa Pantami, PDP governorship candidate in Gombe State Ladi Adebutu and her running mate Alhaja Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, and Kano Governorship candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Aminu Gwarzo.
The missing names have raised questions about potential connections to a recent Supreme Court ruling on candidate nomination requirements, which has cast doubt on the validity of certain selections.
