Jangan rosakkan rundingan dengan PAS, Umno Kedah ingatkan Nur Jazlan

Umno Kedah has warned Nur Jazlan Mohamed against interfering in talks with PAS, after the latter suggested that the latter could potentially be given one-third of the 4th Schedule Parliament seats in the state. Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin, the spokesperson for Umno Kedah, expressed concern that such a move could damage the cooperation between the two parties.

He stated that Nur Jazlan's proposal might jeopardize the relationship between Umno and PAS, which is currently being nurtured. According to Shaiful, Umno Kedah has already held initial talks with PAS, and so far, the cooperation has been smooth, including a visit to the party's leadership on September 15. He emphasized that the aim is for the cooperation to be mutually beneficial and win-win.

Nur Jazlan suggested that PAS should give Umno one-third of the DUN seats in Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Perlis if both parties genuinely want to continue their cooperation ahead of the upcoming general election. However, Shaiful argued that PAS does not need to contest all seats in the region, and instead, should focus on securing two-thirds of the seats to demonstrate their commitment to the Malay agenda.

He also noted that Kedah and the other three states in the SG4 group have a unique approach due to the differing political landscape of the region compared to the southern states. Furthermore, Shaiful stressed that Umno Kedah needs to adopt a cautious and careful approach in building understanding with PAS, as any controversy could potentially undermine the peace of mind during the political developments in Melaka, which will affect Kedah as well, in the upcoming PRN election on November 14.
