Peshawar schools, colleges and universities will observe a holiday on Monday, October 12, as announced by the deputy commissioner on Sunday. Under a notification issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, all educational institutions in the district must halt academic activities for the day. The directive, signed by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Muhammad Daud Saleemi, has been communicated to government departments, police officials, education authorities and educational institution administrators.
The closure applies to all schools, colleges and universities across the Peshawar district. The reason for the holiday has not been specified. The announcement coincides with the federal government declaring an emergency and governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following President Asif Ali Zardari's approval of recommendations from the federal cabinet.
These measures were enacted under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution amid growing security concerns and disputes between federal and provincial governments regarding counterterrorism efforts.
