Cleveland Guardians' pitcher Gavin Williams delivered a stellar 12 strikeouts in Game 5 against the Chicago White Sox, helping the team secure a 2-0 victory and complete a remarkable comeback in the American League Division Series. The right-hander took the mound just two days after his previous outing and managed to give up only one hit over 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
Williams explained his main focus was to help the team win and ease the pressure on the bullpen after four grueling games. His 12 strikeouts tied the Guardians' franchise record for a postseason game, while his performance also set a postseason record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game. With this incredible performance, the Guardians are now just four wins away from their first World Series title since 2016.
