Fifth POCSO Act case against ‘Gem Granite’ Veeramani

In Chennai, the police have filed a new case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Gem Granite chairman R. Veeramani. The decision was made following a complaint lodged by a woman, who claims she was sexually abused by Mr. Veeramani when she was a minor, according to police sources. This incident marks the fifth POCSO Act case involving the octogenarian, who has also been charged with the 2004 case of abetting a minor's suicide, police sources revealed.

Investigators plan to take custody of Mr. Veeramani in the second POCSO Act case soon. He previously was examined by the police in the first case, where video evidence was present and the previously unidentified complainant was identified by law enforcement. A senior police officer disclosed that they have submitted a request to the designated court for custody of the accused to question him in the other case.

Mr. Veeramani and his associates were arrested in the initial case and subsequently detained at Puzhal central prison, where they later faced the Goondas Act.

The accused will be formally arrested in all remaining cases, according to the sources. If you find yourself in distress, please contact these 24/7 helplines: KIRAN 1800-599-0019.
