Emergency Imposed in KP

President Asif Ali Zardari has imposed Governor's Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following a federal cabinet meeting on the province's deteriorating security situation, according to the President's Secretariat. The President signed the decision under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution after the federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, recommended the move.

The government accused local politicians of disengaging from counterterrorism efforts and criticized the provincial administration's approach to combating terrorist activities. Protesters are en route to Islamabad, demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated. The KP government has disputed Islamabad's stance on security policy, asserting that the province should have a say in decisions concerning its safety.

The decision came after a meeting between Zardari and Shehbaz on Saturday, where they discussed the country's political and security landscape, especially the worsening law and order conditions in the northern region.
