Apple Plans Major iPhone Duo Retail Showcase, But Supply Will Be Limited

Apple is set to unveil a new iPhone model on October 23, but the supply of devices for the launch will be limited, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The tech giant plans to allocate space in its Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York for a special display of the "iPhone Duo." Most retail locations will feature an additional spotlight table showcasing the device using Apple's signature white display tables.

The Fifth Avenue location in New York is anticipated to receive over 150 demo units, while Apple Park Visitor Center will have approximately 100. Non-flagship stores are expected to receive around 20 units each, with Chicago's Michigan Avenue, The Grove in Los Angeles, and Manhattan's Upper West Side having between 30 and 40 devices each.

Visitors will be able to interact with StandBy on untethered phones in the store display areas. Apple has developed a MagSafe stand that can hold an open iPhone Duo and two standard iPhones side by side. The retail preparations follow earlier concerns about supply constraints, which led Apple to believe sales could begin in early November.

However, the company has since secured enough inventory for an October launch, though stock is still expected to be limited. Apple is also equipping stores with Presto machines, which allow for software updates without opening the iPhone's packaging and add a personalized greeting during the device's first startup. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo will open on October 16 at 5 a.m. Pacific Time, with sales commencing on October 23. The starting price for the 256GB model in the United States is $1,999.
