Youth chief scoffs at claim of Bersatu yearning for PH pact

Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham dismissed claims that the party desired a partnership with Pakatan Harapan. Following reports of Selangor PH's assemblymen seeking a confidence and supply agreement with Selangor Bersatu, Hilman stated that Bersatu's electoral pact with Pahang Barisan Nasional occurred before any discussions with Selangor PH were initiated. "The issue, therefore, does not arise," Hilman told FMT.

Bersatu assemblymen in Pahang had pledged support for the state's government until its term's end. Hilman, who represents Gombak Setia, responded to suspended Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee's allegations that the current Bersatu leadership has been pursuing a connection with PH. Kiandee claimed that the negotiation of a pact in Selangor had only clarified their intentions.

However, Hilman noted that Bersatu would be receptive to discussions with PH or BN if both coalitions agreed to avoid supporting Wawasan, a faction led by former Bersatu leaders. "But we will only initiate negotiations if they agree to reject Wawasan," Hilman said.

Dr Afif Bahardin, a member of Bersatu's Supreme Council, revealed that Kiandee had previously attempted to establish a pact between Perikatan Nasional and Umno. Afif further explained that due to these actions, Bersatu is facing alienation from PN. Selangor's Chief Minister Amirudin Shari announced on Thursday that Bersatu assemblymen would be signing a pact with the state government before the budget is presented, with the agreement's details still being finalized.

This announcement occurred amidst growing tensions between PH and Barisan Nasional, both partners in the federal and Selangor governments.
