The survey also found that social media can inspire travellers to visit new destinations, with 52% of 25-35 year olds and 59% of Gen Z travellers citing social media as a major influence, compared to just 5% of travellers over 65.

American travellers are the most likely to travel after being influenced by social media, with 49% of respondents saying so, followed by Spanish (48%) and Italian (44%) travellers. Portuguese travellers are also the most likely to post positive content even when their trip is disappointing, with 54% of them doing so, compared to 46% of US travellers and 36% of Spanish travellers.

Portuguese travellers are also the most likely to share pictures of their food, with 66% of them doing so, followed by Spanish (57%) and German travellers (51%). When it comes to admiring hotels and accommodations, Germans are the most likely to share online images of their stay (51%), followed by Portuguese (41%), French (38%) and Spanish travellers (38%).
