Charlotte, North Carolina (Queen City News) -- In an annual tradition, Whelen Engineering and Richard Childress Racing have teamed up once again to honor America's firefighters who have lost their lives. On Saturday, during the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, driver Jesse Love took to the track in a specially modified No. 2 Whelen/National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) Chevrolet.
The vehicle was dedicated to commemorate 204 firefighters who were recently added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The NFFF honored seven of those firefighters who hailed from North Carolina.
Charlotte Fire Department expressed its gratitude to the NFFF, Whelen Engineering, Richard Childress Racing, and the courageous driver Jesse Love for their commitment to this poignant tribute to the fallen heroes. The department shared its appreciation on social media, voicing its desire for these 204 firefighters to be remembered and never forgotten.
The specially designed car was on display at Charlotte Fire Department Station No. 1. However, due to the heavy rain forecasted for Saturday, the NASCAR races were delayed and rescheduled for 8 p.m. on Sunday.
