Spanish police have issued a warning to parents about a WhatsApp scam that uses their children's real accounts to trick them into sending money. According to the Policia Nacional, criminals are posing as children and asking parents to cover payment for a laptop they supposedly bought online. The scam is especially convincing because the message appears to come from the child's regular WhatsApp account.
Parents are advised to verify the message through another means of communication and avoid sending money until the request has been independently verified. If the message turns out to be a fraud, parents should alert their family and report the fraud to the police.
