Police shoot and arrest man after chase on Petaling Jaya road, drugs allegedly found on suspect

Yesterday around 6:42pm in Petaling Jaya, police shot and injured a man in his 30s during a chase that led to a dangerous driving incident and a vehicle collision. Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat reported that the suspect, driving a Proton Wira, attempted to flee from pursuing police patrol car along Persiaran Mahogani towards Sungai Buloh.

Shamsudin stated that the suspect sustained injuries from police gunfire and that another police officer involved was also injured, receiving medical treatment. Videos on social media showed the car chase and collision, followed by the fleeing suspect on foot pursued by police. Shamsudin revealed that police found drugs and a toy pistol-like weapon on the suspect, while a urine test is pending as the man is still under medical care.

Police revealed the suspect had ten prior records, six drug-related offenses and four criminal cases. The investigation is being pursued under Penal Code Sections 186, 279 and 307, the Arms Act Section 36(1), and the Dangerous Drugs Act Sections 39B and 12(2). Shamsudin announced an application for the suspect's remand was scheduled for today at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, urging the public not to spread misinformation or speculate about the incident.

He requested anyone with information to contact the Petaling Jaya district police operations room at 03-7966 2222.
