Mumbai Central Division Intensifies Swachhata Pakhwada With Focus On Food Safety, Track Sanitation And Community Drives

Mumbai Central Division, part of Western Railway, has ramped up efforts for Swachhata Pakhwada 2026. The intensified campaign targets cleanliness, waste management, hygiene, and food safety across various railway facilities. Focus areas include trackside cleanliness, catering unit quality control, and civic participation through "Jan Bhagidari."

Extensive clean-up drives were conducted at 125 locations within station boundaries and five outside. These efforts removed over 4,000 kg of waste and addressed nearly 9 km of unsightly vegetation along tracks. Waste was systematically segregated at 91 stations and three railway colonies.

Special attention was given to passenger food safety and catering hygiene. Commercial and Health Inspectors performed rigorous checks at food stalls in Lower Parel, Dadar, Borivali, and Nandurbar stations. This included testing water for residual chlorine levels and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Pantry car facilities in trains also underwent thorough inspections, with food and milk samples analyzed for quality control. Staff received training in maintaining high personal and operational hygiene standards.

Community involvement was a key component of the initiative. A community cleanliness and awareness drive was held at Borivali station, partnering with the Rotary Club of Borivali, Rotaract Club of Mumbai Anchors, and local schools. Fifty volunteers participated in Shramdaan, delivering a powerful Nukkad Natak to educate commuters on proper waste disposal methods.

These collective actions underscore Western Railway's commitment to maintaining cleaner, safer, and more sustainable railway environments throughout Swachhata Pakhwada 2026.
