Manav Suthar: From Sri Ganganagar to Rajasthan captain, with New Zealand in sight

Manav Suthar, the left-arm spinner from Sri Ganganagar, is making waves in the world of cricket. In a brief span of three months, the 24-year-old has taken five wickets or more across three different pitch types. His Test debut was a standout performance, followed by a successful County Championship campaign with Warwickshire. Now, Suthar is set to lead the Rajasthan team in their Ranji Trophy opener against Tamil Nadu.

Having previously captained in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, Suthar is now stepping into the most prestigious domestic cricket format - the Ranji Trophy. He has already demonstrated his ability to adapt to various conditions, earning praise from luminaries in the game. Rajasthan bowling coach Anup Dave lauds Suthar's intellect and ability to read batsmen, noting that his versatility across red balls from various manufacturers is a significant asset.

Suthar's temperament and consistency on the field have caught the attention of the Indian team management. They are confident in his ability to handle the challenges posed by the right-handed batsmen in New Zealand. Dave explains that the finger spinner has the unique capability to bowl arm balls and conventional spin from the same spot, making him a formidable force in the red-ball arena.

As the Ranji games progress leading up to India's two-Test series in New Zealand, Suthar is preparing mentally for the conditions he will face. He is watching videos and estimating the behavior of the New Zealand red balls, aiming to deliver the perfect line and pace. The coach emphasizes that Suthar's adaptability and work ethic will be crucial in this new role.

In addition to his bowling prowess, Suthar is a valuable all-rounder, capable of contributing with both bat and ball. He is working diligently on all aspects of his game, from batting and bowling to fielding. The coach reassures that Suthar will continue to evolve and improve, learning new tricks as he goes along. With his impressive performances and growing confidence, Manav Suthar is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming Ranji Trophy match and beyond.
