John Smoltz says quiet part out loud about Yankees’ playoff struggles

The New York Yankees suffered another disappointing postseason exit after being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series. The franchise has won 27 World Series titles, but their 2022 team fell short again. Former MLB star pitcher and current broadcaster John Smoltz recently expressed his thoughts on the team's struggles during an appearance on the Flippin’ Bats Podcast.

Smoltz emphasized the importance of having players who embody the "Yankee baseball" philosophy, noting that the current roster lacked the necessary components to succeed in the postseason. He believed that players like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton were key to the team's success and their absence was evident in their disappointing playoff performance.

Smoltz suggested that the Yankees will need to make innovative moves and find a way to build a true contender, possibly by adding younger talent, to address their shortcomings. The team will undoubtedly aim to rebuild and create a championship-caliber roster in the offseason.
