‘I Feared They Would Arrest Him’: Abhijeet Dipke’s Parents Criticise Government After Delhi Police Detention

Pune: Abhijeet Dipke's parents have strongly criticised the government after Delhi Police detained him ahead of a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10. Anita Dipke expressed fear that her son would be arrested before he left for Delhi, while Bhagwan Dipke accused the government of undermining democracy. Abhijeet was traveling from Mumbai to join a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, protesting allegations of electoral roll manipulation.

The protest was denied permission by Delhi Police. Abhijeet and two other CJP members were detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Anita had warned her son about possible arrest after his previous activities, and she admitted to crying when he left. She questioned why authorities were targeting protesters while allowing those accused of serious crimes to go free.

Bhagwan invoked constitutional rights and condemned the detention as an attack on democracy, comparing it to the Emergency period. Abhijeet's grandmother passed away around the time of his detention. The fate of the protest and his detainment remains unclear.
