A 23-year-old woman, Nur Nadzmi Najihah Nasir, claims that her personal details were exploited by a scammer to deceive people online. This led to two individuals, who believed she was the perpetrator, showing up at her home. According to Nur Nadzmi, the scammer used her full name and MyKad information to convince the victims that she was behind the scams.
The first incident happened during Hari Raya in 2023, when an unknown man contacted her after receiving a photo of her MyKad. He used the address on the identity card to locate her, and she promptly reported the incident to the police. However, she was informed that little could be done about the situation.
Three years later, another man arrived at her house and demanded to know why she was being accused of being the scammer. After presenting him with the police report from 2023, he accepted her explanation and advised her to file another report, citing that the person he had been dealing with had sent him a photo of her MyKad as "proof". Nur Nadzmi subsequently lodged a second police report on the same day.
In her frustration, Nur Nadzmi discovered a Threads post from another alleged victim who alleged that the same scammer was using her name to create at least two TikTok accounts. One of these accounts had over 15,000 followers and listed a Malaysian telephone number for "financial services". Despite repeatedly reporting these accounts to TikTok and Facebook, providing copies of her police reports, the accounts remained active.
TikTok stated that it reviewed one of the accounts and found no violation of its impersonation policy.
Nur Nadzmi expressed her fear that another person might arrive at her doorstep and accuse her of being involved in a scam, leaving her concerned about the ongoing issue.
