Sharmila Tagore insisted on surgery after cancer diagnosis, revealed malignant tumour: Soha

Sharmila Tagore shared with her daughter Soha Ali Khan in a recent YouTube video that she was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2023, when she was at the early stage, stage zero. Soha revealed that it was during the surgery that the medical team discovered the cancer was malignant, which was not known before the surgery. Despite some people questioning the necessity of the surgery, Sharmila insisted on it.

Soha explained that her mother's insistence led to a successful outcome, cutting out all the cancerous tissue. Sharmila had also mentioned on Koffee with Karan that this was the reason she couldn't take the role in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. She had expressed regret at not being able to participate due to her health conditions at the time.

Sharmila eventually returned to acting and has since appeared in various films including the 2023 release Gulmohur and the upcoming Puratawn.
