Retired JKR man killed as Proton Wira veers into opposite lane, collides head‑on with Persona in Setiu

Bandar Permaisuri, September 9 — A 72-year-old retired Public Works Department (JKR) employee named Zulkefli Daud, from Kampung Jeli Seberang, Kelantan, lost his life when the Proton Wira he was operating crashed head-on with a Proton Persona near Sungai Tong yesterday. The deceased was pronounced dead en route to the hospital. Setiu police chief Supt Zahril Asri Mohd Zain revealed that the incident took place around 5:30 PM and appeared to have occurred when the victim's vehicle unexpectedly moved into the opposite lane.

Supt Zahril stated that the Proton Persona driver, a 41-year-old woman en route from Kuala Terengganu to Kota Bharu, was unable to avoid the collision. The woman sustained minor injuries, while Zulkefli Daud tragically perished on the way to the hospital. His body was subsequently transferred to the Setiu Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem examination.

The police are currently probing the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Supt Zahril implored any witnesses to the collision to reach out to the Traffic Division of the Setiu District Police Headquarters to aid in their investigation.
