Mahama commissions expanded production line at Nestlé Ghana Ltd

President John Dramani Mahama commissioned the expanded evaporated milk production line at Nestlé Ghana Limited in Tema on Thursday. Tema, once envisioned by Ghana's founding President Dr Kwame Nkrumah as the industrial center of a young republic, has regrown its industrial prominence. The new line will be capable of producing nearly 30,000 tons per year, replacing an older production line that had operated for over 30 years but had reached its capacity.

The government's 24-Hour Economy program aims to maintain a factory running 24-7, supporting approximately 1,200 full-time workers and 1,300 third-party workers. It is encouraging to note that 94.4% of Nestlé's employees are Ghanaian, signaling a commitment to creating job opportunities for locals. Mahama stated that Tema is witnessing a revival, with the Port of Tema expanding, the Port of Tema Oil Refinery resuming operations, and industries like Nestlé expanding their production within the Arise Industrial Enclave.

The favorable investment climate, with foreign direct investment rising from 624 million Ghana cedis in 2024 to 2.62 billion dollars in 2025, has contributed to this growth. Inflations has dropped significantly, and the cedi has regained much of its strength. Mahama commended Nestlé for its support of Ghana's Independence Day Award for schoolchildren for nearly 30 years and urged for continued partnership between the government and the company as the nation prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary - a shared dedication to a prosperous future.
