Lakers vs. Kings: Dončić in midseason form, growing connectivity and woes on the glass

In a recent NBA game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings on October 8, 2026, Luka Dončić showcased his mid-season form, contributing 23 points in 25 minutes. The Lakers secured a narrow 114-110 victory at Crypto.com Arena, with support from Sandro Mamukelashvili, who scored 19 points off the bench, and Jake LaRavia, who added 14 points and maintained his preseason consistency.

Austin Reaves made his preseason debut, contributing 8 points and 8 assists. Despite these positive performances, the Lakers faced challenges on the glass, allowing 20 offensive rebounds and committing 24 turnovers, hindering their progress.

Coach JJ Redick expressed optimism about the team's advancement, highlighting the progress in building rhythm and connectivity within the offense. Dončić's comfortable control of the offense and his ability to create opportunities while opening up passing lanes for his teammates were particularly noteworthy. Mamukelashvili's versatility as a shooter and connector further bolstered the Lakers' lineup, providing an outlet for Dončić's playmaking.

LaRavia's consistent performance, coupled with Austin Reaves' impressive assist numbers, demonstrated the synergy between the lead guards.

However, despite the encouraging developments, the Lakers still grappled with issues at both ends of the floor. The excessive possessions surrendered, including 20 offensive rebounds, underscored the need for improved execution. Redick emphasized the importance of taking better care of the basketball, acknowledging that the team's resilience will be tested moving forward.

While the offensive progress was commendable, the rotation's full evaluation remains challenging due to the absence of key players like Walker Kessler and Collin Sexton. The Lakers must refine their defensive positioning, communication, and rebounding to capitalize on their offensive momentum effectively.
